The Lower Savannah Council of Governments is conducting a comprehensive study of the Best Friend Express public transportation service in Aiken and North Augusta.

The study has examined the existing service characteristics, considered the operating environment, and met with current riders, bus drivers, and local stakeholders to discuss travel and transportation needs.

During the next three months the study team will be identifying, developing, and refining service alternatives for the region with the following goals in mind:
- Increase awareness and ridership on the Best Friend Express
- Examine service alternatives that may better fit the needs of area travelers (e.g. Express service between Aiken and Augusta, demand-responsive transit service, or commuter vanpool service)
- Define a program of capital and operating needs and investment priorities
- Help regional leaders understand the value of public transportation

About Alec More: Alec More is a transit planner and project manager with SRF Consulting Group, and has more than 17 years of experience in public transportation systems planning and design. His focus areas include capital transit projects, service planning, operations planning, and service design. He currently lives and works in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Prior to North Carolina, Alec lived and worked in Minnesota, Arizona, and Washington State.
