(M) Aiken Center - FREE Responsible Service of Alcohol Training
Aiken Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Services (Aiken Center)
The 2nd Judicial Circuit Alcohol Enforcement Team (AET)
Undercover operations in the 29841 and 29860 zip codes have shown that too many alcohol retailers are selling alcohol to minors. In response, Aiken Center and the AET are providing FREE Responsible Service of Alcohol training and incentives to greater North Augusta area retailers.
The two-hour training course --known as the Palmetto Retailers Education Program (PREP)- is a valuable Merchant Education class designed to help everyone in the alcohol retail industry understand and comply with the state criminal and administrative laws. The goal is to stop underage drinking and the harmful effects it has on our young people and to assist in reducing impaired driving across all ages. This grant-funded class is open to owners, managers, sales clerks, and servers across restaurants, bars, and stores. Participants will learn:
- Simple ways to lower the risk of selling alcohol (and tobacco) to minors
- How to refuse a sale to a minor or intoxicated person
- State laws and penalties for sale to a minor (Fines, suspensions, etc.)
- A $30 Visa Gift Card
- A resume-building certification card good for 2 years from the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS)
- 1-year subscription to Intellicheck app used to identify fake ID’s ($360 value)
- Free recognition and marketing in the local paper and on social media for having the business participate in the free training at a specified level
