POSITION SUMMARY

 
 
The Communications & Public Relations Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and execution of communication strategies that enhance the credit union's brand, strengthen member and ambassador (employee) relationships, and support SRP's organizational goals.
Working closely with the Marketing and Communications team, this role ensures that messaging, storytelling, and brand communications align with marketing initiatives to create a unified and impactful member experience. The Communications Specialist supports internal and external communications, media relations, digital communications, and community engagement efforts while ensuring consistent, mission-driven messaging.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, creativity, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple communication initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule: Hours may vary based on departmental needs and community events. Occasional early mornings, evenings, and Saturdays may be required.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
 
Communications Strategy & Content Development
Develop communication plans, create content, support strategic initiatives, and strengthen brand awareness
External Communications & Media Relations
Draft press releases, coordinate media inquiries, support event communications, and maintain stakeholder relationships.

Internal Communications
Create newsletters, announcements, recognition communications, and maintain communication channels and calendars. Community & Member Engagement
  • Support outreach programs, community partnerships, and member-focused communications.
  • Project Coordination & Vendor Support
  • Coordinate projects, timelines, vendors, and communication assets.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, brand consistency, and communication accuracy.
  • Member Service Responsibilities
  • Promote credit union products and services using a member benefit-based approach.
  • Comply with all Credit Union policies, including the BSA, USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related
field required.
  • 3-5 years of communications, marketing, public relations, or media relations experience required.
  • Financial services, nonprofit, or member-focused industry experience preferred.
  • Experience creating and executing communication campaigns across multiple channels.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of digital communications, analytics, content management systems, email
marketing platforms, social media tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Graphic design, video editing, and creative content experience preferred.

Professional Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through digital channels.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling,
crouching, climbing, or balancing as needed.
