Savannah River Mission Completion Donates $15,000 to Local Library

AIKEN, S.C. (September 12, 2024) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the Savannah River Site liquid waste contractor, donated $15,000 to the Nancy Carson Library in North Augusta, S.C.

The Nancy Carson Library, built in 1989, successfully completed its $1.8 million renovation project with the support of its friends and community partners. To bring the library into the 21st century, donors were crucial in making the transformation a reality.

SRMC is pleased to collaborate with the Nancy Carson Library and offer financial support that has contributed to the modernization of the facility with stunning new enhancements, just as the company did for the Aiken County Library, said SRMC Chief Administrative Officer Mark Barth, who toured the new facility.

“This donation supported improvements to the customer service desk area, which serves as the initial point of contact for patrons of all ages upon entering the library,” Barth said. “This investment underscores SRMC’s dedication to education and our local communities.”

Renovations largely took place internally with some exterior modifications, including a newly renovated ADA-compliant family restroom, said Aiken-Bamberg-Barnwell-Edgefield Library System Director Mary Jo Dawson.

“The focus of the library in the 1980s was as a book repository,” Dawson said. “However, the world has changed, and so have the needs of our patrons who now require group meeting space, updated technology, and a fun space for children and parents that is conducive for programs and activities.”

SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
