SRMC Wins Palmetto Star Safety Award from State Agency

AIKEN, S.C. (July 8, 2024) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, was recently honored with a safety award from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (LLR).

SRMC was awarded the Palmetto Shining Star Award for the company’s commendable safety performance in 2023.

The mission of LLR is to promote the health, safety, and economic well-being of the public through regulation, licensing enforcement, training, and education.

SRMC received the Palmetto Shining Star Award for achieving a 2023 incidence rate at least 75% below the 2022 South Carolina average rate for that industry and for working over a million hours in 2023 without a lost time injury/illness.

SRMC’s Safety and Health Manager David Stavru said that SRMC is honored to be recognized for the success of its safety and health programs and practices.

“SRMC employees foster and nurture the safety culture every day, and receiving this award shows others that safety is embedded within the company values,” Stavru said. “Safety is part of every activity and every decision.”

SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
